Tattoos and thinking out loud
Tattoos are a tricky thing. On one hand I really want one, or a few, things that have made me who I am today I’d like to put on my body. Specifically song lyrics that mean a lot, maybe a picture or two. All in places that can be easily covered up to look professional when I need to.
I also feel like the odd man out at punk shows when I’m the only guy without a tattoo.
On the other hand it’s tough for me to think of putting something on my body that’ll be there for the rest of my life.
On the third hand I kind of want some decorations.
Maybe this year? Thoughts?
first: i dislike the stigma that tattoos still have. for some reason they are seen as bad and need to be covered. thats just my opinon there.
second: tattoos are for you. who cares if you dont have one at a punk show?
third: you only live once. its a cliche, but its true. you are young, might as well make your body a canvas. who cares in 30 years time they arent going to look as good as the day you got it: those last 30 odd years youve had great art. by that age, you shouldnt really care about stuff liek that anyway.
i think tattoos are always in your skin, you just need someone to bring them out.
Honestly, when I get home, I will be going to Syke every weekend forever.
And you guys had all better join me. I still remember going the first night it opened.. I think it was really the first time we’d gone out with Jackson and Kevin without James and/or Tim (and was totally the start of an awesome era).. but I remember running into them in Rundle Mall and them mentioning that we were going, and me not even knowing if Kevin knew who I am.
We hadn’t even been sure if we were going that night.. But then Kim, Jacinda and I went after dinner at Sushi Train and a visit to Uni Bar to see Tristan’s band.
And then all the usual boys came, and we drank, and danced, and never looked back.
Honestly, to everyone I regularly syked with, I miss those Friday nights so much. I especially miss Paul, Callum, Hayden and Adam’s appearances.. it sucks that you guys don’t show anymore.
Oh, sigh. Seven more months til I can drink with all you regulars again. That is the hardest part about being away from home.

PATHOGENESIS AND DIAGNOSIS OF PERTUSSIS
Bordetella Pertussis is causative agent of pertussis, or whooping cough. It infects only humans by binding to the ciliated cells on respiratory epithelium. Once bound, it can exhibit the effects of its toxin. Importantly, the toxin of Bordetella pertussis is an AB toxin, which works by ADP-ribosylating G proteins that are responsible for the regulation of adenylate cyclase. In turn this allows for a great increase in cAMP levels, and an opening of chloride channels within cell membranes. Ultimately, excess mucus production results.
The organism exhibits 3 specific stages of pathogenesis - the catarrhal stage, paroxsymal stage and the convalescent stage. Within the catarrhal stage the infected host experiences mild symptoms that are not unlike the experiences with the flu. At this point, the host is still actively shedding organisms, and this period last about 1 to 2 weeks. After this, the onset of the typical whooping cough can be seen and indicates that the host is experiencing the paroxysmal stage of the disease. Cyanosis and fever are seen, but of particular note, infants are at great risk of seizures, brain damage and even death. Finally, in the convalescent stage of the disease the host begins the healing process.
Diagnosis of Bordetella pertussis is relatively simple by obtaining a patient nasopharyngeal swab and plating this to media specific for bordetella identification. media such as Bordet-Gengou agar is particularly effective and the colonies that appear on this plate are distinctive and look like droplets of mercury. Furthermore, a gram stain could be performed, where the organism would be identified as a gram negative coccobacilli. To differentiate the organism from other bordetella, catalase, oxidase, motility and macconkey growth could also be examined. The results of the catalase test are variable, but the oxidase test returns a positive result. The organism is non motile and does not grown on MacConkey agar.

A few years ago I watched this Italian horror movie called Suspiria with a group of friends banking on it being the scariest movie ever made. False.
It wasn’t even scary. It was hilarious. It was goofy and lacked any kind of suspense. There was a part of the movie where some girl fell out of a window into a swimming pool filled with barbed wire, not water. We were rolling on the floor laughing. What a joke. That girl was silly, what was she thinking?
thats ridiculous. she should have stayed in the kitchen.
breaking glass
i like this sound, only really when it hapens in real life, as opposed to seeing it on a movie/game/etc.
breaking of glass seems rare, so it feels like a privilege when i hear it.
